Nadeem Gondal likely to be new PAC Chairman





ISLAMABAD - The PPP-led Federal Government has reportedly decided to fill the seat of Public Accounts Committee Chairman that is laying vacant after the resignation of Opposition leader in the National Assembly Ch. Nisar Ali Khan as its head.
The sources in the ruling PPP told the scribe that PPP leadership has decided to elect MNA Nadeem Afzal Gondal as Chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Nadeem Afzal is already a member of the said committee.
After the resignation of Nisar Ali Khan there had been reports that Qamar Zaman Kaira would be the next Chairman of PAC ,however, after being appointed as Federal Minister Kaira cannot now chair this committee. When contacted MNA Nadeem Afzal Gondal regarding his new expected Chairmanship, the legislator said that it was not in his knowledge and nor the party leadership has conveyed him anything like that.
He said that the committee members would elect their Chairman, whenever, the parties agreed to fill the vacancy.  
The vacancy of the Chairman of Public Accounts Committee is lying vacant from November 2011 when Ch. Nisar Ali Khan resigned as its Chairman to register his protest against the appointment of Akhtar Buland Rana as Auditor General of Pakistan and despite various requisitions being submitted by the committee members the meeting of PAC could not be called.
Sources in the National Assembly Secretariat ,however, told that the Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza has wrote to Opposition leader Nisar Ali Khan to again chair the PAC ,however, he did not accept the proposal.
According to the PAC website, Public Accounts Committee comprises of almost 23 members including Minister In-charge while the remaining members are Noor Alam Khan, Asfandyar Wali Khan, Yasmin Rehman, Noor ul Haq Qadri, Rana Farooq Saeed Khan, Riaz Fatyana, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Zahid Hamid, Ayaz Sadiq, Pervaiz Malik, Saeed ahmad Zafar, Hamid Yar Hiraj, Riaz Pirzada, Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Haidar Abbas Rizvi, Asia Nasir, Rukhsana Bangash, Begum Shehnaz Sheikh, Ch Nisar Ali Khan, Nadeem Afzal Gondal and Qamar Zaman Kaira.
