Man killed for ‘honour’

LAHORE - A man was killed while his wife and mother sustained critical wounds in a gun attack at a house in Nawan Kot police precincts on Monday. The attackers are said to be relatives of the victims.

Police investigators called the incident as honour killing. The couple tied the knot against the consent of their family a month ago that resulted in the yesterday’s attack at a rented house near Gunj Bukhsh Chowk in Nawan Kot.

The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Adil Akram. His wife and mother also sustained multiple bullet injuries. They were shifted to hospital on an ambulance, rescue workers said. The body was moved to the morgue for an autopsy.

The victim family told the police that four gunmen including Rauf, brother-in-law of the deceased, forced their entry into the house and opened fire on Adil, his wife and mother. The gunmen fled after the shooting. The police launched investigation after registering a criminal case against Rauf, his uncle Tariq and two other gunmen, not identified yet.

DSP Nawan Kot later told reporters that the police were conducting raids to arrest the attackers. However, no arrest was made till late Monday night.

Robbers kill two

A trader and an alleged robber were killed during a shop robbery attempt on the main road in Manga Mandi police area on Monday evening, police said. Four gunmen riding on motorcycles forced their entry into a merchant shop and started looting. As the shop owner identified as Hassan tried to put up resistance, the bandits opened fire on him. As a result, Hassan and an accomplice of the gunmen sustained bullet injuries. The alleged robber, not identified yet, died on the spot while the trader was shifted to hospital where he died later. Police said the robber was killed by the firing of his own accomplices. The gunmen fled instantly. The bodies were moved to the morgue and the police were investigating the killings.
