More rain to fall, dam it!


LAHORE - The Meteorological Department has forecast scattered rain-thundershower for Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal divisions), Hazara, Bahawalpur divisions and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. Downpour is expected in Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad divisions and Kashmir. Rain is also likely to lash some areas of Gilgit-Baltistan.
On Friday, parts of the country received rainfall of varying intensities, causing urban flooding. Scattered rain-thundershower occurred in upper Punjab, Bahawalpur division and at isolated places in Malakand, Hazara divisions and Kashmir.
According to experts, seasonal low lies over Balochistan and adjoining areas. Monsoon currents are penetrating into Northeastern parts of the country. Westerly wave is also prevailing over northern parts of the country.
In Lahore, the rain started in the morning and continued intermittently throughout the day, adding to public woes, especially traffic troubles. The rain also laid bare pre-monsoon measures. Snarl-ups were witnessed on major city roads while several incidents of minor accidents were also reported. Maximum and minimum temperature in Lahore was recorded 28 and 23 degree Celsius respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 100 percent.
Bhawalnagar received 58 mm rain, Gujranwala 55 mm, Sahiwal 36 mm, Sialkot 31 mm, Lahore (PBO) 10 mm, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur (AP) and Balakot 8 mm each, Lahore (AP) and Joharabad 05 mm each and  Abbotabad 4 mm.
