The sweet reason Princess Diana wore two watches

There's a hidden meaning behind it.

From what we've learned about Princess Diana over the years, she loved to make sentimental statements regarding her loved ones through the clothes she wore.

For example, it wasn't one of the Queen's iconic tiaras that Diana wore on her wedding day to Prince Charles, but rather a family tiara that her sister had also worn at her wedding. And when she gave birth to Prince William, Prince Charles gave her an engraved necklace with William's name she wore for years afterward.

Which is why we weren't surprised to find out that the reason Lady Diana Spencer was snapped at the Polo wearing two watches was a subtle nod to her fiancé at the time, Prince Charles.

Marie Claire UK reports that the gold watch in the picture above was in fact Princess Diana's, while the larger watch with the leather strap was Prince Charles'. According to the website, Diana wore the watch as a tribute to Charles and to wish him luck in the Polo match, which is really rather sweet, don't you think?

It seems as though the Duchess of Cambridge loves sentimental jewelry as much as her late mother-in-law. Aside from her engagement ring, which was of course Princess Diana's, Kate has also been photographed wearing personalized jewelry gifted to her by her sister Pippa Middleton and husband Prince William.
