Day of shame

Point to ponder is that such terrifying incidents will damage the image of Pakistan on international forum, our authorities after untiring efforts have established a soft image

December 3 must be marked as a day of shame, as a Sri Lankan national was tortured to death in Sialkot and later on his body was set on fire by an aggressive mob over blasphemy allegations; the horrific incident took place at Wazirabad Road within the premises of factory where the workers barbarically tortured the foreign national claiming that he teared down the Durood Shareef, the foreign national was operational manager at the factory for the last seven years though the police arrived at the scene of the incident but till then the mob had set the body on fire even the police tried to stop them but according to the police the rioters strength was overwhelming.

As the news broke on the media, government and higher officials showed grievance and assured that action will be taken against the culprits. The DPO said an investigation regarding the foreign national is under way. Special Representative to PM on Religious Harmony, Maulana Tahir said that the incident is an inhumane act which is absolutely regrettable and condemnable; he further added that no one has the authority to take law in their hands. Even the international human rights NGO Amnesty International’s South Asia also issued a statement saying that it is “deeply alarmed by the disturbing lynching and killing” of the Sri Lankan over a blasphemy accusations, this lynching of the foreign national over the alleged blasphemy took place days after a mob in Charsadda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ransacked a police station and burned it down over similar allegations.

These horrific incidents are increasing day by day which is alarming for us, we need to focus that where we are heading as a society. It is becoming a norm in our country that over false blasphemy accusations without any proper evidence people commit such actions, normally we used to witness such incidents in India where RSS mob used to commit such barbaric acts against Indian Muslims but due to rising extremism in Pakistan we are witnessing the very same very incidents which is upsetting because our country has always assured equal rights to minorities. Point to ponder is that such terrifying incidents will damage the image of Pakistan on international forum, our authorities after untiring efforts have established a soft image of Pakistan but such cases of extremism will again damage the image which will affect Pakistan in multiple ways which is not acceptable. Despite all the odds the main point which needs to be understood is that our religion has always taught kindness and humanity, we have to put humanity first no matter what. People really need to understand that such acts they are committing in the name of religion, in reality aims to promote kindness.
