The Ministry of Science and Technology has apologized from holding the local body elections in Islamabad entirely through electronic voting machine (EVM).

On the issue of holding local body elections in Islamabad through EVM, the ministry said that due to lack of resources and time, they will be able to provide EVMs only for the mayoral election.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has asked the ministry to immediately provide 50 EVMs to conduct mock electoral process so that local body elections could be held through EVMs.

The ECP had directed the Ministry of Science and Technology to immediately fix all the steps for procurement of EVMs and to appoint a focal person on EVMs.

The commission had also written a letter to the ministry to hold the local body elections in Islamabad though EVMs.
