Unequal justice

The Constitution provides protection from unfair discrimination in employment and also in other walks of life. Lamentably, the Sindhi people were often discriminated against during the past successive regimes. They were excluded from jobs, and they were not welcome in all national organizations. Myriad other prejudicial and discriminatory practices were committed against them. That is why, we do not have adequate representation of Sindhis, and somewhere not even a single Sindhi employee, in several federal organizations. There is a long list of such organizations but to name a few: Aiwan-e-Sadr, Prime Minister Secretariat, Pakistan Television Corporation, Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Ogra, Nepra etc. For the first time in Pakistan history, there is an independent judiciary willing to listen to grievances of all countrymen. Our judiciary can play a more significant role in eliminating inequities. Our courts must deal with the issues of discrimination so as to strengthen this federation. In the recent past our superior courts have reacted magnificently.  However, 'affirmative action' is required to remedy the past discrimination against the people from smaller provinces, in particular, Sindh and Balochistan. Let's begin with the newly created Islamabad District Judiciary where all the federating units must have more balanced and equal representation both among judicial officers and ancillary staff. It must be noted that the future of this federation, and the country lies in equality and equality only.
