Parties running after potential workers

KARACHI - Political parties are running after the potential political workers scattered after the unannounced ban on Muttahdia Qaumi Movement (MQM) founded by Altaf Hussain, as general elections are just few months away.

The port city political structure has ruined following the Karachi targeted operation continue since September 2013, apparently prevented MQM Altaf Hussain from any sort of political activities.

MQM Altaf Hussain ruling the roots in the city from more than three decades almost ended in last couple of years and newly emerging political parties including Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) and MQM-Pakistan trying to capture the work force of MQM to rule the city. Mohajir Quami Movement Haqqiqi, one of the first MQM factions appeared in year 1992, having the same objective is trying to regain its position particularly in the areas where Haqiqi ruled since 2001.  Ruling political party of Sindh Pakistan People Party (PPP), ruling Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and other parties were in queue to gain benefits after the fall of MQM.

A senior political leader affiliated with MQM seeking anonymity said that new emerging political parties were unable to attract voters of Karachi as all previous gatherings organized by the above said political parties witnessed lack of public support.

He further said that MQM Pakistan led by Dr Farooq Sattar comparatively gathered the larger number of public in its processions and public gatherings because of workers associated with the local government.

MQM Pakistan also takes the advantages of decade’s old brand, same flag and similar slogans of MQM, while public still consider MQM Pakistan replica of MQM founder Altaf Hussain, he opined.

Whatever the efforts has been made in last four years to fulfill gap appear after MQM seems useless as people of Karachi still looking for their own party whom they believe the only party of Muhajirs.

Another senior political worker recently joined PSP said that in Karachi the new political framework is based upon relations with establishment whom parties have been using to provide sense of security to workers.

He said that MQM workers remain in fear of apprehension following the Karachi operation as most of the workers were reportedly still missing. He added that besides providing the sense of security, parties have also been using the contacts with security agencies to blackmail the workers reluctant to join their folds. Hundreds of workers join particularly PSP after being arrested and released.

He claimed that there were hundreds of workers associated with MQM London were even released after a well connected political party arbitrated with the security agencies and assured the workers affiliation with the party.

A recorded voice chat between the two key leaders of a newly emerging party unfolded the modus operandi being used by their party to take the rival groups carders into their fold. Both the leaders also show concerned that more than 70 percent of their workers must rejoin their mother organization if pressure mounted by security agencies ended for some time.

The chats roaming in social media also unveiled the blackmailing and threats being used by the party to attract the rival group workers and those disassociated themselves from any political party and trying to live like a natural citizen.

APML the party of former Army Chief General (r) Pervaiz Musharraf considered another most powerful party having strong roots within the establishment have also started political campaign to attract the political cadres providing shelter to MQM workers and those join PSP in compulsion to avoid arrest.

APML also trying to strengthen their political structure within the city and assured political workers for their complete support and gave the same sense of security.

In the last public gathering, APML leaders in their speeches restrained rival group political party alleging that their workers being threaten and pressurized by a newly emerging political group.

Interestingly, newly emerging political parities flags, posters, banners and wall chalking have been witnessed across the city but Karachiities seems irrelevant in such political scenario.
