Opposition will take joint stand against govt, says Bilawal

Government on way out, seeks NA Speaker’s resignation

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari yesterday said that the federal government was on its way out.

Speaking to journalists here, Bilawal said National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser should resign after the last day’s brawl in the Assembly.

“The government is on its way out. The Speaker has failed to run the House and Prime Minister Imran Khan has no interest in the state of affairs. The MPs are not in his control,” the PPP chief said. Bilawal said the Opposition will take a joint stand against the government.

“Opposition leader (Shehbaz Sharif) is in consultation with the Opposition parties. We will evolve a joint strategy,” he added. He condemned the uncivilized behavior adopted by the Treasury benches in the Parliament.

Bilawal said that government members had violated the sanctity of the House by adopting a sad and intolerable attitude in the Parliament.

He further said that it was not a good tradition in Parliament to adopt frivolous behaviour instead of taking the public issues seriously and pass legislation to solve them.

“Instead of making the Parliament a battle field, the members of the assembly have to set a good example by performing their duties in the House,” he said.

Meanwhile, PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari demanded immediate resignation of National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser for negligence in exercising its powers over the riots in the National Assembly. Bukhari said the Speaker of the National Assembly was directly responsible for the rumpus.

“The Speaker of the National Assembly failed miserably in controlling the commotion in the House,” he added.

“Following the incident, the Speaker of the National Assembly should have resigned immediately,” he said. Bukhari said that the dignity of the Parliament was badly tarnished.

“Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser remained a silent spectator. Instead of stopping government Ministers from using vulgar language,” he added.
