islamabad - President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed Vice Admiral Muhammad Shafiq as Vice Chief of the Naval Staff with immediate effect, said a notification issued here on Tuesday. Vice Admiral Shafiq was commissioned in the Operations branch of Pakistan Navy on June 1st, 1977.
During his career, he has served at various command and staff appointments including, second in command of a destroyer, command of Naval Air Wing, command of Naval Air Arm and Commander Naval Strategic Forces.
Shafiq has undergone a number of professional courses including specialisation in navigation and operations, naval command & staff course from Indonesia and Armed Forces war course from National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad.
