Azharuddin's son dies of injuries from accident

MUMBAI- Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin's son Ayazuddin has died in Hyderabad, succumbing to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Sunday. Ayazuddin, 19, suffered serious injuries to the head, chest and abdomen, and hadn't regained consciousness since the accident. A medical bulletin on Thursday said that tests indicated a brain dysfunction. Ayazuddin's 16-year-old cousin, Ajmal, who was riding pillion, had died on Sunday, hours after being taken to the hospital. Ayazuddin, the younger of Azharuddin's two sons from his first wife Naureen, had been a promising cricketer on the Hyderabad school circuit, noted for his stylish batting similar to his father. The brain of Ayazuddin was dead yesterday itself, according to one of the senior doctors at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad. Speaking exclusively over his mobile on Friday evening, the doctor said, "we had demonstrated this to the family on Thursday afternoon, but were asked to continue with the treatment. Non-functioning of brain is equal to death. Mohammad Azharuddin was hoping for the miracle to happen". "Sadly, the 19-year-old Ayazuddin could not survive. His heart stopped functioning at 11.51 AM to-day", Dr. Ravindra Babu, the Medical Superintendent said. "Ayaz was critical from day one but being an athlete himself could battle for five days", the doctor further added. "Azhar took his son's death very boldly. The entire family was very sad". "Naureen, the deceased birth-donor, was crying. Even, Sangeeta Bijlani, the step mother cried", the Medical Superintendent, who was an eye witness throughout the day, said. According to the other sources, the family had booked 3-4 rooms in the hospital and there was no issue between Naureen and Sangeeta Bijlani.
