LAHORE - Bilal Asim and Asad Zaman reached the U-18 singles final of the PLTA Punjab Junior Tennis Championship 2021 after winning their respective semifinals played here at the Punjab Tennis Academy, Bagh-e-Jinnah on Thursday.
In the U-18 first semifinal, Bilal Asim and Abdul Hanan Khan played well against each other and fought for each and every point till the end. After a tough fight, the match was then decided in super tie break, where Bilal held his nerves against vigorous Hanan and won the crucial match 3-6, 6-4, 10-3. The second semifinal was also decided in the superb tie break, where Asad Zaman (McDonald’s) held his nerves and overcame energetic Ahtesham Arif to win the marathon match 3-6, 6-2, 11-9.
Asad Zaman (McDonald’s) also made way to the U-14 final, when he overpowered Hamza Ali Rizwan 6-0, 6-3 in the first semifinal while in the second semifinal, Husnain Ali Rizwan (LGS Paragon) thrashed Aalay Husnain 6-0, 6-0. Asad told media that he is working very hard on his game under the able guidance of his mentor and coach Rashid Malik (ZTBL) and joint coach Faheem Siddiqui and he is also grateful to his supporter Tariq Zaman, Chief Executive of Ali Embroidery Mill Pvt, whose all-out support is helping him achieve his set goals.
In U-18 doubles semifinals, the pair of Rizwan brothers, Haider Ali and Husnain Ali (LGS Paragon), faced tough resistance from spirited pair of Abdul Hanan Khan and Ahtesham Arif before winning the encounter 8-6 while the duo of Faizan Fayyaz and Shaeel Durab outsmarted the pair of Zain Saeed and Muneeb Majeed 8-3. In the U-12 semifinals, Abdul Rehman was up against Inam Bari and thrashed him 8-0. In U-10 semifinals, a major upset was witnessed when Fajar Fayyaz overcame spirited Hajra Sohail 9-7.
