Benazir Youth Development Programme soon

KARACHI - The federal government has issued instructions to provincial governments to start a development programme in the name of PPP Shaheed Chairperson Benazir Bhutto to provide jobs and training to graduates across the country, The Nation learnt on Thursday. The one-year scheme "Benazir Youth Development Programme" is expected to start with around one billion rupees in each province. A senior official of Sindh government confirmed that the federal government had issued directive to the provinces to start this programme. He said the implementation of this developmental programme would be started from next financial year 2008-09. The main objective of this programme was to provide training and jobs to the educated youths in the country. The official further said that especially IT/computer-related training would be given to educated youth. While Sindh government has started its home work to implement this idea, the official said that two days ago a meeting was chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Nazar Hussain Mahar, that was attended by senior officials of all provincial departments. He said that instructions have been issued to all administrative secretaries of provincial departments of Sindh government and district coordination officers (DCOs) to provide information about the posts where these youths could be appointed after completion of their training process. In principle, it was decided in the meeting that first three months initial training will be given to 0.1 million educated youths of the Sindh, a senior official of Information Department disclosed and added this training would be given according to academic qualification. Sources confirmed that Special Secretary Finance Ms Naheed Durani is coordinating with other departments for implementation of the proposed programme in Sindh. The concerned official of Sindh government told The Nation that this programme would be initiated at national level. According to proposed plan, every sector and department would train graduate youths for enhancement of their skills. After completion of training programme, the government would give jobs to these people while the government would facilitate them in getting jobs in private institutions and abroad. Official informed that during training process, honorary stipend would also be given to these youths. "At least around one billion rupees would be earmarked for this programme in upcoming Sindh budget while final decision would be taken in next few days", he said.
