ISLAMABAD - PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Monday cancelled the basic party membership of like-minded groups leader and former federal minister, Humayun Akhtar Khan. The membership of Humayun has been cancelled on the charges of violating partys discipline and convening partys general council meeting on August 20. Talking to TheNation, newly appointed PML-Q Information Secretary, Kamil Ali Agha, said that the membership of Humayun had been cancelled for violating party discipline. Humayun Akhtar along other party renegades has been involved in violating party discipline for the last one year and now he has convened fake general council meeting of the party on August 20 in the federal capital, he said, adding that convening general council meeting was an unconstitutional step of renegades. Agha said that the genuine general council meeting of the party that was held on July 20 had given PML-Q President power to cancel the membership of any party member over violation of the discipline. He said that earlier Humayun and other leaders of like-minded group had convened partys workers convention on August 10 in Peshawar which was an open violation of party discipline. For the last one year, PML-Q President Ch Shujaat Hussain, due to his reconciliatory disposition, has been reluctant to take any action against these leaders but now it has become necessary on the demands of other party leaders to take disciplinary action against rebels, he noted. The PML-Q information secretary said that there was possibility of such disciplinary action against other renegades if they did not abandon their anti-party activities. Once the action started, it will go ahead and the membership of other defiant leaders could be cancelled in the coming days if they continued working against party interests, he hinted. On the other hand, Humayun Akhtar Khan will address a press conference at his residence in Islamabad today (Tuesday) to share his point of view on intra-party conflict. Reacting on the cancellation of Humayuns membership from PML-Q, Senator Salim Saifullah said that it was very unfortunate. He said that Ch Shujaat was encircled by sycophants who were giving wrong pieces of advice to him. Such moves would further damage the party with no benefit for Chaudhrys at all, he stated. Online adds: Humayun Akhtar Khan while talking to Online said the general council formed in earlier this year was unconstitutional and illegal and only the general council of 2006 was a constitutional body of the party. He said he had no concern over cancellation of his membership by so-called leadership of the party and those doing so should worry about their own membership, adding future course of action would be determined in the general council meeting to be held on August 20.
