Selection to be preferred over seniority for promotion

LAHORE The Punjab government has prepared a new promotion policy in the province as per which the promotion to the posts of grade 19 and above will be given on the basis of selection, not seniority. In this new policy, the government will now have the right to give promotion to any of the officers of its choice while seniority system will be completely abolished. Besides, an approval has also been given to a new policy in connection with the transfers of DMG officers from the Punjab, and PCS officers from Lahore. They will be entitled to have official residence for two years while in case of posting in other province or city this condition will not be applicable. PMS officers after their appointment will remain posted as section officers for one year at CMs Secretariat, Governors House, and other departments of the Secretariat. After this, they will be given field postings and will be appointed as DDOR after a period of three years. The Punjab government in consultation with officers of the Provincial Services Department prepared a new policy under the recommendations of the Cabinet Committee. But, in addition to this, the new promotion policy, which was not in the demands, had also been given approval. A notification in this regard will soon be issued.
