Efforts on for Zardari-Faheem reconciliation

KARACHI - Central PPP leaders are making efforts for reconciliation between party's Vice-chairman Makhdooam Amin Faheem and Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, sources confided to The Nation here on Thursday. It was learnt that PPP central leaders, who are also members of Central Executive Committee, would meet Asif Ali Zardari and Makhdoom Amin Faheem in a bid to sort out differences between them to save the party from any split. It may be recalled here that Makhdoom Amin Faheem had developed serious differences with Asif Ali Zardari after the latter nominated Yousaf Raza Gillani for Prime Minister's slot. After keeping mum for a few months, Makhdoom Amin Faheem sharply criticised Asif Ali Zardari and the policies of the PPP-led government saying that the party Co-Chairman was not following guidelines set by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and had deliberately sidelined senior party leaders who were also close lieutenants of the slain party chairperson. PPP central leaders, after furious statement from Makhdoom Amin Faheem against Asif Ali Zardari and the government, decided to meet both stalwarts to save the party disintegration. They have tried their best to end differences between the top guns of the PPP. "I suggested that PPP Central Executive Committee session should be called by PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and all complaints against the leadership should be discussed in the meeting despite giving public statements" the sources added. He added that he has urged the aides to Makhdoom Amin Faheem and Asif Ali Zardari to avoid attacks on each other. When contacted, PPP leader Yousaf Talpur, said that within weeks differences would be resolved between the two party leaders.
