Govt asked to take action against accused

PESHAWAR Condemning the brutal killing of central general secretary of Baluchistan National Party Habib Jalib Baluch, speakers at a condolence reference urged upon the government to take stern action against the involved persons. Speaking at a condolence reference at Peshawar Press Club (PPC) on Saturday, the central leader of Baluchistan National Party Rahat Malik said that besides the recent brutal killings of Habib Jalib and Mir Maula Baksh Dashti, there was about 2,500 people killed since 2003 onward in Baluchistan having political affiliations with one or the other party. He said that the government did not take any action against the targeted killings and none of the person involved in the gory incident had, so far, been arrested. He said that the judicial commission set up in the cases of Habib Jalib and Maula Baksh Dashti assassination was of its first kind, however, they were demanding of the authority that the Commission should also hold inquiries into the target killings which had taken place earlier. The provincial president of Baluchistan National Party Syed Mukhtar Bacha said that only condemning the killings of the leaders of Baluchistan National Party was not sufficient by the government but some practical action should be taken against the involved people. President of Peshawar Press Club Shamim Shahid said that target killings were also done in the tribal areas of the country as well wherein tribal elders were selectively targeted and killed. Ilyas Durrani, a civil society member, said that those raising voice for the nations interest were killed not only in Baluchistan but also in the rest of the areas of the country and added that Habib Jalib and Maula Baksh were attempting to bring the politics of the drawing rooms to the arena of the public to address their problems. He appreciated their role in promotion of democracy and condemned the brutal killings of such political figures. The spokesperson of ANP Arbab Tahir Khalil said that political figures were constantly been targeted in the country to silence their voice and added that besides Habib Jalib and Maula Baksh, there were prominent personality like Arbab Sikandar Khan, Abdu Samad Achakzai, Dr Najibullah Khan and certain other figures were brutally killed.
