KARACHI - The Sindh Education and Literacy Department has failed to recover service dues of retired school teachers allegedly embezzled by Syed Taj Muhammad Shah, Ex ADO Education (Male) Gulberg Town, despite various reminders issued from the office of Provincial Ombudsman Sindh (Regional Office) Karachi Central.
Despite all allegations, Syed Taj Muhammad Shah is not only on the seat but also getting promotions in the department, The Nation has learned.
Currently, Syed is serving as project director of Sindh Teachers Education Development Authority (STEDA) though being issued with cause notice on corruption.
Conversely, Sindh Deputy Secretary Schools has also directed to Director Schools Education to resolve the problem, as the ex ADO Education (Male) Gulberg Town has misappropriated service dues of the retired teachers.
A source said that an official letter was issued on October 29, 2013 to Director Schools Education by the office of Sindh Deputy Secretary Schools.
On the other hand, Nazir Ahmed Qidwai, Regional Director Karachi Central Provincial Ombudsman (Mohtasib) Sindh had issued a letter to Sindh Deputy Secretary Schools, saying that it was a matter of deep concern that despite passage of a considerable period of time and directives the embezzled services dues of retired school teachers have not yet been recovered.
Commenting on the issue, an official of the education department said in the era of Ex-Senior Provincial Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq corrupt elements were given power.
He further said that the current incident was not the only case of misuse of funds, as corruption has become routine practice almost in every office of Sindh Education and Literacy Department.
