70 shops gutted in Chitral market fire

CHITRAL -  At least 70 shops and three houses were burned to ashes in Chitral’s Drosh Market on Friday.

The fire erupted in the market in the morning that engulfed a big portion of the marketplace in no time and destroyed several shops and houses.

Rescue sources informed that a fire erupted in the Drosh Market on Friday which was quickly spread in the area and destroyed dozens of shops, incurring the loss of millions of rupees to the shopkeepers.

The sources said that soon after information about fire eruption, the heavy staff of fire-brigade volunteers and police reached the site and doused the fire after hours-long hectic efforts.

Around 70 shops and three houses were destroyed in the fire.

The shopkeepers said they have lost all their goods and valuables worth millions of rupees due to the fire.

The additional deputy commissioner and officer of disaster management visited the site of the fire and inspected the rescue activities. The Chitral Chamber of Commerce president was also present at the scene.

The police have started the investigation to find out the real cause of fire eruption.
