Aqeel, Abid enter All Pakistan Open Tennis final

Lahore - Aqeel Khan and M Abid booked berths in the Nayza All-Pakistan Open Tennis Championship men’s singles final after defeating their respective opponents in the semifinals played here at the PLTA tennis courts on Friday.

In the first semifinal of the day, M Abid proved too hot for Muzammil Murtaza and outclassed him 6-3, 6-1. Aqeel, on the other hand, played outstanding tennis as usual and this time against Shahzad Khan by toppling him 6-4, 6-4 in the second semifinal. Both Aqeel and Abid will vie against each other for the men’s singles title today (Saturday).

In the ladies singles, Ushna Suhail and Sara Mansoor made their ways into the final after edging past their respective opponents in the semifinals. In the first semifinal, Sara Mansoor thrashed Noor Malik, daughter of former Davis Cupper Rashid Malik, in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. The second semifinal was contested between international tennis player Ushna Suhail and former No 1 Sarah Mehboob, where Ushna once again dominated and and toppled Saraj 6-4, 6-4. Now Sara Mansoor will face Ushna’s challenge in the ladies final today (Saturday).

In the men’s doubles quarterfinals, Aqeel/Shahzad defeated Ahmad Babar/Yousaf Khan 6-3, 6-2, Muzammil Murtaza/Mudassar Murtaza outlasted Abbas Khan/Shahid Afridi 6-1, 6-2, M Waqas/Heera Ashiq outpaced Israr Gul and Ikraam Ullah 6-2, 6-2 and Abid/Usman Rafiq thrashed Abdaal Haider/Malik Abdul Rehman 6-2, 6-0. In the men’s doubles first semifinal, Aqeel/Shahzad defeated Muzammil/Mudassir 6-1, 7-5.
