Ahmed beat Jatin to qualify for BB Tennis second round

ISLAMABAD -  Ahmed Chaudhry qualified for the second round of the US$15,000 Shaheed Benazir Bhutto (BB) International Tennis Tournament 2017 after beating Indian Jatin Dahiya here at Islamabad Tennis Complex on Monday.

In the men’s single,

Ahmed Chaudhry played extremely well against the Indian opponent Jatin Dahiya and defeated him by 6-7(3), 6-1, 6-1. It was the first set, where the Pakistani player struggled really hard to win it but the Indian won it 6-7(3). Ahmed then made a strong comeback by playing natural and aggressive tennis and outclassed his rival in the next two sets 6-1, 6-1 to win the match in great style.

In other men’s singles matches, Ivan Ponomarenko of Russia beat counterpart Dmitry Myagkov by 2-6, 6-2 and 6-1. Ivan though lost the first set 2-6 but he bounced back in style and dominated the next two sets, winning them 6-2 and 6-1 to register an impressive victory. In the third match of the day, Kristian Lozan of Russia outpaced Ukrainian Gleb Alekseenko in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-4 while in the fourth match of the day, Turkish Ergi Kirkin also played extremely well against Pakistani Muhammad Abid and outlasted him by 6-1, 7-5.

In men’s doubles, Paramveer Sing (India)/Ajay Pruthvi (India) defeated Sikandar Hayat Qureshi (Pak)/Hayat Saqib (Pak) by 6-1 and 6-3, Anurag Newwani(India)/Jayesh Pungliya (India) beat Asad Mehmood Khan (Pak)/Fahad Mehmood Khan (Pak) by 6-2 and 4-0, Peter Goldsteiner (Aut)/Julian Onken (Ger) beat Muzammil Murtaza (Pak)/Luka Pavlovic (France) by 6-4 and 6-3, Gleb Alekseenko (Ukrin)/Ivan Ponomarenko (Russia) beat Mohammad Wagas Malik (Canada)/Mudassar Murtaza (Pak) by 6-7(5) and 6-2(10-5) and Shalva Dzhanashiya (Russia)/Ivan Nedelko (Russia) by 7-5 and 6-3.

Senator Farhat Ullah Babar and Senator Taj Haider were the chief guests at the opening ceremony and inaugurated the tournament. They also witnessed the matches and lauded the players for amusing the spectators through exceptional tennis skills.
