LAHORE - Mohammad Shoaib downed Aqeel Khan in the men’s singles semifinal of the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed National Tennis Championship 2021 at ITC on Saturday.
Shoaib faced tough resistance from the No 1 player Aqeel Khan before winning the three-setter match 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-4 in three-hour long match. In other semifinals, Muzzamil Murtaza comfortably beat Yousaf Khalil 6-1, 6-2. Now Muzammil will face sensational Shoaib in the final today (Sunday). The men’s doubles title was clinched by Aqeel Khan and M Abid, who overpowered Heera Ashiq and Yousaf Khalil 6-3, 6-0. In boys U-18 semifinals, Hamid Israr beat M Huzaifa Khan 6-2, 7-6(4) while Abdullah Adnan beat M Talha Khan 6-4, 6-2. In girls U-18 singles semifinals, phenomenal Amna Ali Qayum beat Saher Aleem 6-1, 6-1 while Sheeza Sajid beat Sara Pervaiz 6-0, 6-0. In boys U-14 singles semifinals, M Sallar beat Asad Zaman 2-4, 4-2, 4-2 and M Ibrahim Sharif beat Ali Zain 4-2, 4-1.
The girls U-14 title was lifted by Amna Ali Qayum, who beat Zunaisha Noor 4-5(3), 4-1, 5-3 in the final. In boys/girls U-12 semifinals, Hamza Roman beat Samer Zaman 4-2, 4-1 and Abdul Basit beat M Haziq Aasim 1-4, 4-1, 5-3. The boys/girls U-10 title was clinched by Shayan Afridi, who defeated Abdul Wasay 4-0, 4-0.
