Mortifying pompous acts

Countries that have grace and confidence pay tribute to their founding members and historic personalities. They do not change their loyalties with the blowing wind. We have seen political upheavals and change of loyalties. I appreciate your editorial of Feb 9 regarding the conversion of Quaid-i-Azam Postgraduate Medical College into a university and renaming it after Mr Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Peshawar airport was earlier named after Bacha Khan, the late ANP leader, who had willed not to be buried in Pakistan and was therefore taken to Kabul for his last rites. These are just two examples as many other places of significance have been re-named after insignificant political figures of the recent past. I wonder for how long we shall remain a hostage to these political parties who have nothing but their leaders’ names to offer to this country and who have disappointed the nation on all occasions.
