Joint Opp to be expanded: Nawaz

LAHORE – PML-N President Nawaz Sharif has said that the platform of the joint opposition will be strengthened and expanded by including more parties in the run-up to the elections.PML-F chief Pir Pagara and NPP head Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi – who both visited Raiwind residence of Sharif family on Friday to offer condolences at the death of Abbas Sharif – reciprocated the call for greater opposition alliance by affirming their support for the idea. After their meeting, Nawaz told the media “we will jointly work out whether alliance or seat adjustment is suitable for the political parties on the joint opposition platform”. Ch Nisar Ali Khan will consult all parties on the opposition side before finalising names for the caretaker PM, he added. When pointed out that some reports are suggesting arrival of another figure to again sensationalise the political stage of the country, Nawaz said that he too was looking for that third person who (after Imran Khan and Dr Qadri) is preparing to hold show at Minar-e-Pakistan.About involving Dr Qadri in the process of naming the caretaker PM, PML-N chief said it amply testifies the cleric was part of the government. Nawaz said that Qadri reached Islamabad to save the state but left it to save his own honour. Just look at the character of Qadri and the government ministers who were at daggers drawn just a day before hugging each other, he said. Nawaz said Qadri announced that government has terminated but later he succumbed to the same government. He said he had already predicted this end. He lambasted Qadri’s venture and said that the cleric took innocent children and women along but sold them out at a very low price. Qadri spent billions on his political stunt but what he got in the end, was not worth it.Nawaz said PML-N and PML-F share concern over problems facing the country in general and the Sindh province in particular. He depicted a pathetic picture of the Sindhis due to the government ‘indifference’ and said Sindh People Local Government Ordinance was another means to divide Sindh and Sindhis which is contrary to people’s will and the opposition will not let the government do it.He said the ordinance has exposed the double standard of the federal government as the proposed law factually aims at benefiting a big political party to get a few more seats in the next elections. To a question, he said they will not let PPP have the interim chief ministers of its choice in Sindh and Balochistan and vowed going to any extent to check the mukmaka (underhand deals) of the PPP in those provinces.Pir Pagara (Sibghatullah Rashidi) affirmed that PML-F will hold a formal meeting for becoming part of the opposition alliance and in the meanwhile he would remain in touch with the PML-N leadership. Appreciating Nawaz’s initiative, he said they would join opposition alliance without any demand. Pagara also voiced for unification of the Muslim Leagues and said that he would feel greatly relieved if that happens.National People Party chief Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi said that situation in the country was very critical and joining hand of all patriotic forces was a must. He also  indicated that his party will contest election on the joint opposition platform and an announcement will be made in next meeting.Agencies add: PPP MNA from Lyari, Nabeel Gabol, who also visited Raiwind to express condolences with the bereaved family, said that Karachi has gone out of control of political leadership and was being ruled by criminals. He demanded a cleanup operation in the city before general elections, saying that he fears bloodshed and fair elections cannot be held in the ongoing circumstances. Gabol said Nawaz has once again saved the democracy by gathering the opposition political parties . He said that though he has differences with his party but he would not leave it until removed by President Zardari . He said that Nawaz, like other some parties, has offered him PML-N ticket but he will consult with the people before taking any decision.
