Mardan - Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abid Wazir on Monday said that polio campaign was successfully completed in the district and the refusal decreased from 2,900 to 2,400 in the current campaign.
He expressed these views while talking to a Mardan Press Club delegation headed by Riaz Mayar (General Secretary). Other members of the delegation included Shah Hussain Tanha, Amir Shoaib, Fazl-e-Haq and Falak. The DC said that five-day campaign against the crippling disease was successfully completed in the district due to the efforts of the district administration, health and other departments.
Abid Wazir said that a total of 384,189 children below the age of 5 years were given polio drops and Vitamin A capsules during the campaign. He said that 1,464 polio teams had performed duty in the campaign while 2,238 police personnel were deployed for their security.
The DC said that children aged six months to five years were given Vitamin A capsules. The religious scholars, media, elders of the areas and local government representatives had played an important role in the success of five-day polio drive, he said adding that full security arrangements were made for the campaign and pillion riding was banned to avoid any untoward incident.
Answering a question about the corona situation in the Mardan district, the DC said that during first wave coronavirus was more dangerous. First death during the first wave was occurred in Manga Mardan, he added.
He said during second wave of COVID-19 around 54,170 people had been screened in the district so far. Almost 23,832 tests had been conducted so far, out of which 21,044 were declared negative while the results of 934 suspected patients were still awaited, he added. The DC said that 1,634 patients were recovered while 81 patients died in the district so far.
