Adiala Jail authorities cancelled a pre-arranged meeting on Thursday between former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz and their lawyers.
Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Harris and Maryam Nawaz’s lawyer Amjad Pervaiz were scheduled to meet with their clients at 11 am today. But, however, when they [lawyers] arrived at the jail, they were told through a phone call that their meeting had been cancelled.
Maryam Nawaz's lawyer, Amjad Pervez, said that the jail authorities told them that they would be informed of a new time for the meeting later.
Earlier, a list of visitors are scheduled to meet Nawaz and Maryam in Adiala jail today.
As on the prisoners meeting day today, the jail officials said that 17 members of the Sharif family and 23 members of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) are named in the visitors' list for Nawaz and Maryam.
Among the PML-N leaders to meet the imprisoned father-daughter duo are Asif Kirmani, Javed Hashmi, Pervaiz Rasheed, Ayaz Sadiq and former governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
PML-N Chairman Senator Zafarul Haq and Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair also reached Adiala jail earlier today for the meeting.
Earlier, on July 6, Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison and fined £8 million while his daughter Maryam was sentenced to eight years with a £2 million fine in the Avenfield corruption reference by the Accountability Court.
