Lahore police chief vows foolproof security for Eid, Muharram days

CCPO says maintenance of law & order and writ of government top priorities of Lahore police

Lahore - Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar Sunday said that the police had adopted foolproof security measures for upcoming Eidul Azha and Muharramul Haram to protect citizens as well as mosques, shrines, and other public places and state institutions in view of the rapidly changing situation in Afghanistan.

Chairing a meeting of all units of Lahore Police at District Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh, the CCPO said that maintenance of law and order and writ of the government were the top most priorities of Lahore police.

“The Sub Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), being the focal persons in campaign against the proclaimed offenders (POs), should play their leading role for arrest of the POs wanted in cases of heinous crimes,” the CCPO said.

“The profiling and data collection of the criminal history of drug dealers, land grabbers and habitual criminals, arrested this year by Lahore police, has been ensured. Daily presence of these criminals at police stations will be made mandatory so as to bring these law breakers in the ambit of law through their proper documentation and interrogation from them about means of their income,” the CCPO added.

“The SHOs, using delaying tactics in registration of FIRs and response to citizens’ calls on helpline 15, will be dealt with an iron hand. Surety Bond should be taken from citizens assuring that their roofs will not be used for kite flying and aerial firing,” he added.

The CCPO directed the police officers to arrange reconciliation between the parties in cases of old enmity to avoid future killings. He also directed them to make sufficient security arrangements during the election campaign of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and at polling stations in the city.

The city police chief ordered the SPs concerned to increase security at cattle markets to protect citizens from swindlers and pickpockets, adding that police escort should be provided on demand to the cattle dealers returning homes with huge amounts of money.

The CCPO also issued directions for the establishment of “Police Help Desks” at busy markets and bazaars with deployment of lady constables and provision of loudspeakers to facilitate citizens to find their lost children and luggage.

DIG Operations Sajid Kiani said that no illegal cattle sale point other than the 12 approved and notified ones by the government would be allowed to do business in the city. He directed to increase visibility and patrolling of all units of Lahore police including Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit, Ababeel Force, sensitive installations, and religious and public places in the wake of present situation in neighbouring Afghanistan. “Strict search and checking of vehicles and persons at the exit and entry points of the city should be ensured,” he added.

The DIG Investigation, DIG Operations, SSPs, and SPs attended the meeting.
