PHC closes down 83 centres of quackery

LAHORE - In a drive against quackery in 14 districts of the province, the Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) shut down 83 illegal treatment centres during the last week. According to details, the PHC teams raided 739 treatment centres. As per the data made available, 178 quacks were found to have abandoned quackery while 43 centres became licensed centres of medical treatment. Also, the PHC will continue surveillance of another 392 treatment centres. Among the centres which were sealed during the operation, 53 were being used as family clinics and nine medical stores were giving medical treatment to patients. In Attock district only, the PHC teams shut down eight illegal centres. In other districts, 11 centres were sealed in Sahiwal, nine were sealed in Dera Ghazi Khan, eight in Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahab and Bahawalnagar each, seven in Chiniot and Rawalpindi each, four in Chakwal, three in Kasur, Bahawalpur and Lodhran each, and one in Sheikhupura. In Lahore, Ali Medical and Gynae Centre and Hafiz Clinic & CDC Medical Lab & Collection Centre were also closed down.
