RAWALPINDI - Former interior minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan said on Monday that ex-PM Nawaz Sharif had no competence to lead the party in the 90s but he was given the party’s rein at the behest of “someone else”.
“Nawaz is not intelligent and wiser than me. I have lots of disclosures to make but the ailment of Kalsoom Nawaz stopped me from spilling the beans against Nawaz in my public gatherings,” Nisar said in his public address at his native town Chakri.
The former interior minister said: “I also have to respect 34-year association with the party. There are several things which I wanted to share with people about the politics of PML-N and the role of Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz but due to the health of Kalsoom Nawaz, I will not speak publicly now.”
Nisar continued: “When the PML-N was established only 15 or 20 members were part of it. Nawaz was neither a senior party member nor eligible to lead the party but we had no other choice. Either all those senior party members left the party or Nawaz left them. I carried the burden of Nawaz for the last 34 years.”
The estrange leader added: “I don’t owe them anything but he (Nawaz), his family and the party are indebted to me. It was natural for me to part ways with them. I never compromised on my principles. I never sold my conscience. I was answerable to Allah, the public and not Sharifs.”
He said he worked for the people and did not make any factory for himself. He asked the youth of his constituency to stand by him for bringing about a change.
Nisar said: “July 25 will be the day of change and the people will get rid of the dynastic politics of ineligible politicians.”
He said those who harp on the mantra of “respect for votes” were forcing him to break his silence.
“The massive gathering of my supporters and voters has sent a clear message to my opponents that I will win on July 25,” he claimed. Tight security arrangements were made for public gathering. According to an estimate, around 3,000 people participated in the gathering.
Nisar asked his supporters to answer his opponents that he was not alone and all the people were with him. He said the people of the whole country were eyeing a crucial contest in NA-59.
