LAHORE - Punjab (C), Wapda, Army and Railways on Monday toppled their respective opponents in the quarterfinals to book berths in semifinals of 1st CM Punjab 5-a-Side National Women Hockey Championship being played here at National Hockey Stadium.
In the first quarterfinal, Wapda edged out strong HEC 3-2. Wapda’s Hamra Latif scored two goals while Maira Sabir netted the third one. Kalsoom scored two goals for HEC. The second quarterfinal saw Railways routing Islamabad 4-1. Arzoo Mansoor struck twice for the winners while Mariyam Hanif and Sarika Sarwar contributed with one goal apiece. Islamabad’s only goal came from Fozia Talib. Punjab (C) trounced Punjab (W) 7-1 in the third quarterfinal. Until half-time, Punjab (C) had a 5-0 lead. Sidra Hakim hammered a hat-trick while remaining four goals came from Mariam Hussain, Aqsa Ajaz, Saira Murad and Mahak Rasheed (one each). Punjab (W)’s only goal was scored by Amara Murad. The fourth and last quarterfinal was won by Army women, who thumped Sindh (W) 3-0. For Army, Adeeba Afzal, Asma and Iqra Iqbal converted one goal each.
The first semifinal will be played between Wapda and Railways at 6pm while Punjab (C) will face Army in the second one at 7pm.
