Senator Kazim elected PBC Vice-Chairman

ISLAMABAD Senator Muhammad Kazim Khan was unanimously elected as Vice-Chairman Pakistan Bar Council in a meeting held in Councils office, Supreme Court Building, here on Saturday. Kazim Khan has replaced Abul Inam, whose term as vice-chairman has expired. The new PBC vice-chairman earlier held the offices of President, Lahore High Court Bar Association, Vice-Chairman, Punjab Bar Council and Chairman, Executive Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council. The PBC also expressed great concern on the constant detention and trial of Dr Aafia Sidduqi by US on alleged charges of attempt to murder of a US soldier. The council also passed a resolution demanding of the American Bar Association to intervene into the matter and be on the board with Pakistan for effecting her early release on humanitarian grounds. The Pakistan Bar Council in view of unprecedented floods in all the four provinces, which caused unimaginable devastation, resolved to establish a Flood Relief Fund by donating from its funds Rs 5 million for relief and rehabilitation of flood affected advocates. It was decided that each member of the Council shall contribute Rs 10,000 in the fund. The Pakistan Bar Council said that no court at any level should sit and work beyond the prescribed working hours. It is absolutely necessary to relax the time frame and category of cases should be phased out in the given time frame.
