LAHORE - Teams BN Polo and Asean won the opening day matches of the Islamabad Club Challenge Cup 2022 that got underway here at the eye-catching Islamabad Club Polo Ground on Tuesday.
According to information made available here, in the first match of the day, Team BN Polo proved too hot for Team The Guards as they toppled them by a huge margin of 11-4. Foreign player Eulogio Celestino emerged as the hero of the match as he fired in four fantastic goals from the winning team. His teammates also played well and contributed with significant goals as Haider Naseem hammered a hat-trick while Ahmed Ali Tiwana and Baber Naseem banged in a brace each.
Team Asean players tried hard to tame the high-flying BN Polo but their efforts were futile as they lost the opener by 4-11. Although they started the match with a two goals handicap advantage, they couldn’t benefit from it, thus conceding too many goals in the process. Only Mumtaz Abbas Niazi and Hashir Niazi converted one goal apiece from the losing team.
In the second match of the day, Team Asean recorded an easy 9-3½ triumph over Sheikh Enterprises, thanks to their foreign player Bauti Fenell, who did magic with his mallet and horse by hammering a convincing hat-trick while Raja Jalal Arslan, Haider Asad and Hashim Asad converted one goal apiece. Team Sheikh Enterprises, which had two and a half goal handicap advantage, couldn’t resist the Team Asean’s attack, thus keeping on conceding goals and losing the encounter 3½-9. The only goal from the losing side was scored by Ismail Afzal. Today (Wednesday), two more matches will be played.
The first encounter of the day will be contested between Kalabagh and PAF/Rizvi’s at 3:15 pm while The Guards will vie against Kalabagh/Shahtaj in the second match of the day at 3:45 pm.
