CEC’s foolproof security beefed up

Islamabad-The security of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja has been beefed up following the threats to his life, well-placed sources disclosed to The Nation on Tuesday.

Recently, Sikandar Sultan Raja informed the Ministry of Interior about threats he had been receiving since he began hearing PTI foreign funding case, they said.

“Some suspicious elements are roaming around that can harm me any time. Therefore, have requested foolproof security from the government,” sources quoted Chief Election Commissioner as saying.

Following the threats to the life of Sultan Sikandar Raja, the Ministry of Interior directed the IGP Islamabad Muhammad Ahsan Younas to ramp up the security of the CEC. The IGP along with SSP Operations Muhammad Faisal Kamran and SSP Law and Order Syed Karar Shah assured CEC of full protection.

“This is true that CEC Sultan Sikandar Raja intimated the Interior Ministry about the threats he is facing and the police have tightened security around him accordingly,” said IGP while talking to The Nation adding that extra police force has been deployed in the office and at the residence of the CEC Pakistan.

He said the protection of public and their property is the top priority of the police. He said police are also using all the available resources to secure the political and other important government officers/figures in the Federal Capital. The Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to hear the PTI foreign funding case daily so that it could be decided within 30 days. PTI Chief and ex-PM Imran Khan said the foreign funding case is a plot to oust him from politics.
