The Establishment Division will, however, notify the date of the meeting after getting formal approval from the prime minister, the sources added.

Well-placed sources told The Nation that the Establishment Division has started compiling a list of senior bureaucrats of grade 21. They said that eight to ten officers will be promoted to grade 22 in the upcoming meeting of the board as seven to nine senior bureaucrats will retire by the end of this year.

According to available documents, the outgoing federal secretaries include Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan Babar Yaqoob Fatah Muhammad, who would retire on October 31, Secretary to Prime Minister Javed Aslam on November 10, Secretary Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Muhammad Ijaz Chaudhry on October 7, Secretary Education and Trainings Muhammad Imtiaz Tajwar on August 23, Member Incharge Federal Ombudsman Raeesuddin Paracha on October 26, Secretary Information Muhammad Azam on October 10, and Senior Joint Secretary Inter Provincial Coordination Aftab Ahmad Memon on September 11.

The sources said the government might give two-year extension in services to Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan Babar Yaqoob Fatah Muhammad. They said that Secretary to PM Javed Aslam would be the potential candidate for the post of Chairman Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) which is vacant after the retirement of ex-chairman FPSC in last month.

Under the services rules, Promotion Board meeting should be held after every six months. Its last meeting had taken place five months ago under the chair of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
