NAB chief orders probe against Akram Durrani

ISLAMABAD -  NAB Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal has ordered an inquiry against Federal Housing and Works Minister Akram Khan Durrani into the allegations of misuse of authority and illegal allotment of plots in Islamabad.

Durrani had allegedly allotted plots in sectors I-12 and I-16 to his favourites at lower rates.

In another development, Rawalpindi NAB has recovered Rs 3.602 billion in rental power projects (RPPs) and distributed among contractors/sponsors and government departments concerned as per the law.

The Rawalpindi NAB had filed 11 references, including Karkey Ship, Piranghaib Multan, Guddu, Sindh, Naudero-II, Sindh, Samundari Road, Naudero-I, Sindh, M/S Reshma Power Generation Raiwand, M/S Young Gen Power Ltd, Bhikki Sheikhupara, and M/S Gulf Rental Power (Private) Ltd, in Accountability Court, Islamabad.

The main accused in these references are ex-PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, former finance minister Shaukat Tareen, former finance secretary Ismail Qureshi, former Pepco chairman Shahid Rafi, former secretary/PEPCO chairman Tahir Basharat Cheema and others.

Cases against government functionaries/officials and others in the award of the RPPs contract to M/S GE Sharqpur (Private) Ltd are at investigation stage while four investigation officers of the bureau, Gul Anwar, Asghar Khan, Hina Faisal and Hammad Khan Niazi, are investigating these cases.

In a statement, Rawalpindi NAB DG Irfan Naeem Mangi has said that in the light of the directions of the NAB chairman, the bureau strongly believes in zero-tolerance policy against corruption. The NAB’s anti-corruption campaign is widely being carried out for awareness and prevention of corruption.
