LAHORE-Talha Waheed of Gas and Oil Pakistan and Abid Mushtaq Wapda grabbed the men’s doubles title in the Gobi’s Paints Punjab Open Tennis Championship 2021 here at the PLTA Courts on Friday.
The men’s doubles final proved to be a highly entertaining encounter, where Talha Waheed and Abid Mushtaq played tremendous tennis and upset top seed pair of Heera Ashiq and Ahmed Babar with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. The winning pair though faced tough resistance in the first and second sets, but they played the third and decisive one aggressively and won it 6-1, thus clincged the doubles title.
In the men’s singles semifinals, Muhammad Abid excelled against Ahmad Kamil and won the encounter by 6-2, 6-4 while seasoned campaigner Heera Ashiq faced tough resistance from Imran Bhatti before winning the encounter 6-3, 6-7, 10-6. Abid will face Heera in the final today (Saturday).
In the U-10 semifinals, Abdur Rehman bin Sohail of AAA Associates thrashed Umer Ali 6-0 while Hajra Sohail of AAA Associates outpaced Fajar Fayyaz 6-3. Both are kids of same family have become tennis family of Pakistan. Abdur Rehman have won 8 national medals whereas Hajra has earned 6. Their father is thankful to AAA Associates Founder Lt Col (r) Shahzad Ali Kiani of Twin Cities and their team for their ultimate support of both the players to give their best in tennis.
In the U-12 semifinals, Ameer Mazari overpowered Zohaib Afzal Malik 4-1, 4-1 while Haniya Minhas defeated Omer Jawad 5-3, 4-1. Allied Paints Industries Pvt LTD Chief Operating Officer Maj (r) Asim Zafar will grace the finals as chief guest and distribute prizes and certificates among the winners and top performers. PLTA Secretary Rashid Malik, tennis players and their families will also be present on the occasion.
