US Gen, Russian Presidential Envoy discuss  Afghan situation with COAS

Peace in Afghanistan is important for peace in Pakistan, says Gen Bajwa

ISLAMABAD   -  Incoming Commander US CENTCOM General Kenneth F. Mc Kenzie Jr called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, says a press statement issued by Pakistan Army on Friday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation with particular reference to ongoing Afghanistan reconciliation process were discussed during the meeting. 

“Both expressed unanimity of views on importance of political resolution of Afghan situation,” says the statement released by ISPR. 

COAS said that Pakistan is committed to efforts for peace in Afghanistan as it is important for peace in Pakistan. Visiting dignitaries acknowledged Pakistan’s commendable efforts in the fight against terrorism and ensuring regional stability.

Also, Russian Presidential Envoy to Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa  at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. “During the meeting matters of mutual interest, regional security situation particularly developments in Afghan Peace Process were discussed,” the ISPR said.  COAS said that peace in both countries is in greater interest of the region. 

The visiting dignitary appreciated the positive role being played by Pakistan for Afghan Peace Process and expressed that, Pak-Russia relations will continue to prosper manifolds. According to ISPR, both sides reiterated the commitment to enhance bilateral relationship.
