PESHAWAR - Punjab University (PU) successfully defended their title after winning the Kamyab Jawan Sports Drive Intervarsity Badminton Championship played at Hayatabad Sports Complex under the aegis of Directorate of Sports University of Peshawar on Saturday. International badminton player and current Pakistan No 1 Murad Ali was the chief guest on this occasion, who gave away trophies and cash prizes. A total of 16 teams from all across the country took part in the championship. In the final, Punjab University defeated University of Lahore. In the first singles, PU’s Tayyab defeated UoL’s Rohail by 2-0, in the second singles, Jalees of UoL beat Hamza of PU to make it 1-1. In the third single, Shayan of PU routed Rohail in straight sets and in the doubles, PU’s Hamza/Tayyab beat Rohail/Rohan. Earlier in the semifinals, Yasir/Sohail of Superior University Lahore defeated Shayan/Umrez of PU in the first doubles while in the singles, Arsalan was winner and in the second semifinals, Raza Ali of GCU Lahore beat Jalis Khan of UoL. In the singles semi-finals, Rohail of UoL beat Saad of GCU Lahore by 22 runs. Jabbar Abu Dhar defeated Sajjad 21-16 and 21-17 in the doubles.
