LAHORE - Unseeded players Sa Rang Lim of Korea and Ivan Iutkin of Russia clinched the girls and boys crowns in the ITF Pakistan Syed Dilawar Abbas Memorial World Junior Tennis Championships that concluded at PTF-S DA Tennis Complex Islamabad.
According to information made available here on Saturday, Korea’s unseeded player Sa Rang Lim stunned top seed Andra Izabella Sirbu of Romania by 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 to win the girls singles title. Andra Izabella started well against Sa Rang and took 3-0 lead and continued her good show to comfortably win the first set 6-1. Sa Rang bounced back well against her opponent and put her under tremendous pressure to win the second set 6-2. The Korean dominated the third set as well and took it 6-4 to grab the title.
Unseeded Ivan Iutkin of Russia clinched the boys singles title by eliminating his opponent Mehmet Onur Turgut of Turkey by 6-4, 6-3, as the match lasted 1 hour 14 minutes. Both the players exhibited high standard of tennis and moved forward equally till it was 4-all. In the 9th game, Ivan Iutkin was down 0-40 but he changed his game plan and started playing aggressively, which helped him win the set 6-4.
PTF President Salim Saifullah Khan graced the occasion as chief guest, whereas ITF President Tariq Murtaza along with HE Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul - Ambassador of Turkey, HE YerzhanKistafin - Ambassador of Kazakhstan HE Irena Gancheva - Ambassador of Bulgaria and diplomat from Russian Embassy and others were also present at the prize distribution ceremony and distributed prizes amongst the winners and runners-up.
