No nation can progress sans quality education: SMIU VC

KARACHI - Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Vice Chancellor of Sindh Madressatul Islam University, has said that no nation can achieve its developments goals without quality education.
And Sindh Madressatul Islam University is engaged in fulfilling such obligation with patriotism and dedication. He said this while addressing the farewell party organised by SMIU at Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium in honour of Afroz Abbasi, Principal of SMI Girls Model School, who retired from her service on Saturday, January 19, 2013.
Dr Shaikh said Afroz Abbasi was the most dedicated and highly learned teacher and good administrator. This is why, so far 15 batches of Girl students have passed matriculation examination from the SMI and tens of hundreds of girl students of the SMI have been reached on very important positions in various fields.
Giving an example in this respect he said that Sara Wali Qazi was an old student of SMI’s girls section. After dosing graduating from SZABIST, now she works at the SMIU as a faculty member. Dr Shaikh said it was a uniqueness of Afroz Abbasi that she was the first headmistress of Sindh Madressah’s junior section in 1990.
When the secondary classes were added to the girls section in his period in 1997 she became its first incharge, then first vice principal and after that first principal.
Similarly, when Sindh Madressah received the university status last year, she became its first officiating registrar. Dr Shaikh said the girls section of SMI was opened as the English cum Sindhi medium, because there was no quality public sector school for girls in the city and later SMI’s girls proved one of the quality school of Sindh as its girls used to secure hundred per cent results in the board examinations. In recognition of Afroz Abbasi’s service spread over 22 years and 5 months at the SMI, Dr Shaikh gave her a cheque of her pension contributions.
“The SMIU has set a precedent today that we are giving cheque of her retirement benefits on the very first day of her retirement,” said the VC. He added that the retired employees of other departments of the country are remain deprived from their retirement benefits for many years but we have set a example today by giving retirement benefits to our retiring employee on the very first day of her retirement. And this tradition will continue.
Dr Afroz Abbasi in her speech `said that she fulfilled her responsibilities with loyalty and dedication because she considered the teaching job the most sacred one.
Senior teachers of SMI boys and girls model schools Zahida Abbasi, Syed Wajid Ali and Rajab Ali Mallah also eulogized her services rendered at SMI. Various sections of SMI gave Afroz Abbasi gifts too.
