FAISALABAD - The City Traffic Police took action against 26,243 motorcyclists for not wearing helmets during driving realised a sum of over Rs5.2 million as fine from these violators during a special campaign.
Chief Traffic Officer Sardar Muhammad Asif Khan said that the police would continue the campaign for indefinite period. He said that the wearing of helmets during driving was in the interest of the bikers as they would be safe of head-injuries in case of accidents.
The CTO further said that on his request the Health Department has agreed to provide sufficient staff at 6 hospitals in Faisalabad for issuance of the Medical Fitness Certificate to those applying for new driving licenses, supply of duplicate copies thereof, renewal of existing licenses and issuance of learning driving licenses. He said that hitherto only DHQ Hospital, Faisalabad was allowed to issue the Medical Fitness Certificates but now 5 more hospitals including the Allied Hospital, General Hospital (Saman Abad) and Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals of Samundri and Jaranwala have been authorised to issue the Medical Fitness Certificates to the driving license seekers.
