PPP MNA booked after court intervention

ISLAMABAD - Several days after a senior bureaucrat got a bad beating from a powerful lawmaker from the ruling Pakistan People’s Party, the Capital Police finally ‘woke up’ with the registration of an FIR (First Information Report) about the incident, but only after the court intervened.
Secretariat Police have registered a FIR against PPP member National Assembly (MNA) from District Narowal Tariq Anees and his two armed guards on charges of injuring and thrashing a grade 20 officer of the Ministry of Housing and Works under sections 34, 353/186, 337 A-1/342, 337 F-5/337 F-1 of Pakistan Penal code (PPC).
According to the FIR no 03/13 dated January 18 (Friday) Tariq Anees along with his two armed bodyguards including Tahir Hameed on January 7 entered the office of Mohammad Sarwar Awan, Joint Engineering Advisor, Ministry of Housing, located in room no 112, First Floor at Block B of Pak Secretariat. An unknown guard of Mr Anees had also been nominated in the FIR.
The lawmaker asked the officer about the present status of a development scheme of his constituency regarding reconstruction of road from tehsil Shakar Garh city to Masroor of district Narowal for which PM Secretariat had already allocated 100 million rupees. The officer informed the MNA that the development working party (DWP) in its meeting held on December 11, 2012 did not approve the relevant scheme.
FIR says that on hearing the answer of the officer, the lawmaker got infuriated and he along with his two guards started beating him physically with punches and with the butt of a Klashinkof, a prohibited bore gun. The officer got injuries on his chest, left leg, back and as a result of this one of his left hand fingers severely injured.
The officer got his medical examination of the Polyclinic Hospital and got issued a medical certificate for the registration of a case but police refused to register a FIR against the influential legislator till the intervention of the court. At this, the officer filed an application in the court of Additional District & Session Judge Islamabad Khawaja Khurram Ali Khan and the court on January 15 issued directions for the registration of a case against the accused.
A senior police officer of the Secretariat Police Station said that FIR had been registered against the lawmaker and his guards and further investigations were under way.
