Shalimar Hospital, BISE on notice over tax default


LAHORE – The Excise and Taxation Property Tax Department has issued notices to the Shalimar Hospital, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and Shaheen Complex for non-payment of property tax, sources said on Saturday.
“If these institutions failed to pay property tax by January 30, their buildings will be sealed” said an officer of E&T.
He said the BISE was defaulter of Rs2.6 million while Shalimar Hospital Rs2 million and Shaheen Complex Rs1.8 million.
Sources said that though management of Shalimar Hospital has claimed to be the hospital being run under the Trust, but the E&T department has come to know that hospital management was charging heavy fees and charges from patients.
The E&T has sought accounts record from the hospital management to verify the facts. BI&SE management has also claimed to be the department of Punjab government but E&T was of the view that its an autonomous body and its tax could not be exempted. Similarly Shaheen Complex management has also plea to not pay the property tax but E&T has rejected the plea and asked its management to pay property tax. “We will have to meet the 70 percent property tax collection target by the end of January”, a tax officer said.
LDA staff to show cause over fraud:  The Lahore Development Authority Saturday issued show-cause notice to six of its employees over fraud.
According to LDA spokesman, the employees include Muhammad Anwar, Staff Officer, Azmat Ali, Sharif Shahid and Muhammad Arif Raza, Junior Clerks, Jamil Peerzada, Accounts Clerk and Rana Muhammad Hanif, Patwari.
They have been served this notice under Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act 2006 and directed to submit their reply to this Show Cause within seven days failing which it shall be presumed that they had no defence to offer.
