KARACHI - The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday sought a report pertaining to the money used in the campaigns during general elections and issued notice to secretary Sindh information department and others.
A SHC bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar heard a petition filed by Mureed Ali Shah against publicity of political leadership in government-sponsored advertisements during elections. The court issued notices to Sindh information secretary and others. “How much money was used in the campaign from the public exchequer?”, The court inquired. Public prosecutor Jawad Dero argued that elections are over, now the petition is ineffective. To which, Jusitce Mazhar maintained that elections are over but what is the policy, adding present the policy.
Pictures of political leadership are published in government advertisements, Mureed Ali Shah said. “It is against the law to publish pictures of political leadership in government advertisements,” the petition said. Pictures of political leadership are being published despite Supreme Court orders, the petition said. Later, the court adjourned the hearing and sought a report from Sindh Information Secretary.
