'Govt not serious about missing persons'

ISALMABAD With scary thoughts coming to their minds evoking tears, the mothers, wives, and children of the missing persons have learnt that the current government has no interest in the problems of the people and is not taking the issue of the missing persons seriously. Protesting for their concerns since long the dejected relatives of the missing persons who are in torturous limbo, again gathered in front of the Parliament House against the government which is delaying recovery of their beloved ones. District Amir Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Syed Bilal, famous UK journalist and HR activist Yvonne Ridely, office bearers of JI, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, students and distressed family members of the missing persons were participants of the protest rally that was held under the banner of the Defence of Human Rights (DHR). While holding placards and shouting anti-government and anti-US slogans and photos of the missing persons, the protestors were of the view that the government had promised to recover all missing persons but instead of honouring its commitment so far no positive results has come in this regard. They were also chanting slogans against the rulers for silence over the issue of the missing persons including Dr Aafia Siddiqui. While speaking on the occasion famous UK journalist and HR activist Yvonne Ridely said that two years back he came in Pakistan and at that time there were few people who talked about issue of missing persons and Dr Aafia. But today, she maintained that millions of people across the world who know Aafia are speaking about the rights of the missing persons. She condemned the drone attacks in Pakistani territory saying, The drone attacks in this country have slaughtered innocent people. In her address Balqees Saif, ex MNA said that presently 35 per cent females are in Assembly, but they are silent over the issue of Dr Aafia Siddiqui. While talking about the current government she said that they are not working for the welfare of the people. She told that freedom is a basic right of every human being, and Americans who always claimed of saving human rights are biggest violators of human rights. Amna Masood Janjua, wife of Masood Janjua, one of the missing persons and Chairperson DHR strongly criticised the rulers and alleged that violation of human rights was still continuing. She said, We have no hope from Americans and condemn behaviour of our leaders, who have turned deaf ears towards the matter of Dr Aafia.
