Mega projects to facilitate masses on the cards

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif has said that mega projects will be implemented under a comprehensive planning for resolution of problems with regard to sewerage, traffic and provision of basic facilities in the big cities of the province. According to a handout issued on Saturday, he said that the government has allocated record funds of more than Rs 193 billion for Annual Development Programme (ADP) in new financial year budget through which equal development projects will be implemented in rural and urban areas. He said that a mega project will be given a final shape soon through a comprehensive planning for controlling the possible flood in the Nullah Layee and sewerage and roads in Rawalpindi and its speedy implementation will be ensured. He expressed these views while addressing a briefing meeting held with regard to mega development projects at Punjab House Islamabad today. Members National and Provincial Assemblies Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, Malik Ibrar, Malik Shakil Awan, Zia Ullah Shah, Sheliryar Riaz, Malik Yasir Raza, Raja Muhammad Hanif Advocate, Chairman Development Monitoring Committee Rawalpindi Sardar Naseem besides Engineer-in-Chief Gen. Shahid Niaz, Director General FWO Major Gen. Najibullah Khan, Secretary Housing, Secretary Communication & Works Punjab, Commissioner and DCO Rawalpindi, Brig Abdul Waheed of FWO, Brig Nasrullah Abeer and other concerned officials were also present on the occasion. Shahbaz Sharif said that speedy implementation of development projects will be ensured for providing possible relief to the people. He said that government attaches priority to education, health and implementation on overall public-welfare projects. The Chief Minister further said that government is working on a development agenda under a comprehensive strategy for resolving traffic, sewerage, construction of roads and other problems in big cities of the province including Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi. He said that effective monitoring of utilization of allocated funds for development projects will be ensured and no one would be allowed to misappropriate development funds. He said that the legislators should personally monitor ongoing development projects in their respective areas and proper utilization of funds and quality construction of these projects should be ensured. He said that not only a comprehensive planning will be made for improving sewerage and road system in Rawalpindi and controlling possible flood in Nullah Layee but required funds will also be provided for this purpose. He directed Commissioner Rawalpindi to give final shape to mega project in the light of suggestions and in consultation with concerned departments at the earliest so that it could be implemented without any delay. Brig Nasrullah Abeer of FWQ gave a detailed briefing with regard to proposed planning of controlling possible flood in Nullah Layee, its width, depth, brick-lining, construction of roads on its both sides, construction of various flyovers and underpasses and implementation on projects. The Chief Minister stressed upon the legislators to keep a close liaison with the people and work devotedly for resolution of their problems.
