Kaira assures compensation for slain journalists




ISLAMABAD  - Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Monday held out assurances that compensation to journalists killed in line with their duty and attacks by the outlaws would be made.
"The government, nation and journalists condemn these killing incidents and their heirs would be paid compensation," he told a groups of reporters at the Parliament House after they staged a walkout from the Senate session.
The government and the whole nation, Kaira said, saw with appreciation the positive role the journalist community was playing for democracy and highlighting the issues for reformation of society. "The government and the nation are with them and all-out measures will be ensured for their safety and security."
He said although extraordinary situation prevails in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, yet journalists had also been targeted in Federal Capital and Punjab.
Kaira also suggested to the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) to constitute a committee to sit with the government for resolving the problems being faced by journalists and also get released finances for Journalists Victim Fund. He assured that funds for the victim journalists would also be provided by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Kaira said the information secretary would be attending the conference in Geneva, where he would also raise the problems being faced by the journalists.
