SWABI - All Pakistan Software Competition (Softcom) concluded in Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology here on Monday.
The three-day competition was organised by Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), GIKI Chapter. The three-day event comprised speed programming competition, poster design competition, software/ multimedia competition, pring hackathon competition, walnut media competition, startup competition and web development competition. Dr Zahid Halim was chief guest in the prize distribution ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Zahid said that it was not an easy task to organise all Pakistan event in the present complicated situation and it was really encouraging that the students from all over the country participated in an event, which gathered IT competitors and lovers on a single platform.
“Such competitions in the educational institutions, especially in universities inspired and motivated the youngsters and if they put their heads together Pakistan could easily shine in the IT field,” he said. “No doubt that the present age is an age of information technology which has rapidly changed the entire landscape of the technological world and much more breakthroughs are expected in this field.”
He said that IT is a vast field and there was need of more research and joint efforts by academia and the government. They academia could make extraordinary contributions to IT and country. The outstanding teams who notched top positions in different categories of competitions received prizes and certificates.
