Govt depts asked to get hacking-prone software replaced

LAHORE  - Around 90 percent of computers in Pakistan, including those being used by security agencies and federal ministries, are at the risk of being hacked because of the software installed in them.

The Cabinet Division has not only alerted the senior officials of security agencies as well as of federal ministries, but has also sent suggestions to avert any such eventuality. On the other hand, despite the fact that the defects that made this software vulnerable to attacks by hackers had been identified some years ago, it is still being used in the country. The result is that secret agencies of India, USA and other hostile countries are exploiting this weakness, and are stealing sensitive information from our computers.

The letter, sent by the Cabinet Division, states that the software of Window Net framework being used in Pakistan, had such type of a deficiency that the hackers could take over the entire computer system, or steal important data or delete important details.

Still the same software is being installed in computers even today which is of various types such as Net Framework 2 SP 2, Microsoft Net Framework 3.5-3.5-1, Microsoft Net Framework 4.6.2, 4.6.1, 4.6, 4.6-1, 4.6 and 4.5.2.

These days advanced software are being used. Even these are being objected to. An expert in the Cabinet Division has stated that special cells have been established at the offices of secret agencies such as CIA, RAW and others for spying on smaller countries by hacking their computers.n
