Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday has said Pakistan cannot be held responsible for the failure of United States in Afghanistan we have been striving for a positive role in the Afghan reconciliation process.
Commenting on a tweet of US President Donald Trump, the foreign minister said international community, including the US, acknowledged Pakistan’s role in the war against terrorism.
Qureshi said the US would have faced more losses in Afghanistan if Pakistan had not provided its support at the cost of its own huge losses.
Shah Mehmood said Pakistan wants good diplomatic ties with the US but it is also necessary to keep the record straight.
"Pakistan would now formulate its foreign policy keeping in view its interest," he asserted. Pakistan was ready to listen to the concerns of the US administration, FM further added.
To a query, the foreign minister said Pakistan desired for a positive engagement with India but Delhi government backtracked even after agreeing for engagement.
US President Donald Trump on Sunday defended his administration's decision to stop hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid to Pakistan, saying the country does not do "a damn thing" for the US and its government had helped Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden hide near its city.
